NATIONAL ICONS OF BANGLADESH



The National Emblem of the People's Republic of Bangladesh is the national flower Shapla (water Lily) surrounded by two sheaves of rice, four stars and a bud with three tender leaves.



THE ROYAL BENGAL TIGER:














 Worldwide Known Royal Bengal Tiger is the national animal of Bangladesh. This majestic beast finds its home in mangrove forests of the Sundarbans in the southern part of the  country.





DOEL (MAGPIE ROBIN):



 The Doel ( magpie robin) is the national bird of Bangladesh. It is famous for its sweet look and melodious whistle and is found everywhere especially in rural Bangladesh.






ILISH:

Ilish (Tenualosa ilisha) is the national fish of Bangladesh. It is a sea fish but it tastes very delicious when it is caught from river. Those from the Padma river are considered to be the best in taste. It is the most popular fish not only Bangladesh but also other countries.




JAMUNA MULTIPURPOSE BRIDGE:








A bridge on the river Jamuna was a long cherished desire of Bangalees. Ultimately the dream came true. Two detached parts of Bangladesh are now connected by Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge. The biggest of its kind, this Bridge is one of our greatest achievements








.KATHAL (JACK FRUIT)







The Jackfruit [Kathal] is our national fruit. Thorny in outlook this fruit is big in size. The fruit is juicy and delicious. Jackfruit in Bangladesh is viewed as delicious, sweet, tasty and juicy, and many Bangladeshis use Jackfruit in their curries and other cuisine. It is made into a variety of different products, such as canned fruit, dried fruit and pulp. To know more click here






SHAPLA ( WATER LILY)




The Water Lily (Nymphaea), also called shapla, is the national flower of Bangladesh. Water lilies are believed to represent peace and a calm, reflective nature. Water lilies are found all throughout the world, being especially prominent in tropical climates. While they mean many things to many different cultures, to the people of Bangladesh the meaning of their flower rests on its shape. The many petals of the Nymphaea represent the many rivers of Bangladesh. 





The National Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho)







 



The National Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho)at Savar, about 35 km north-west of Dhaka built in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971, which brought the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistani rule. The Monument tower designed by Arch Syed Mainul Hussain is composed of seven isosceles triangular planes, each varying in size in its height and base. The planes are folded at the middle and placed one after another. The highest point of the structure reaches 150 feet. Several mass-graves and a pool of water body are placed in front of the monument. To know more click here








SHADEED MINAR (MARTYRS MONUMENT)


Central Shaheed Minar is a national monument built in memory of the mother language martyrs, who were killed on 21 February 1952 during the  LANGUAGE MOVEMENT. It is situated at Dhaka Medical College campus, Dhaka. To know more click here








JATIO JADUGHOR (THE NATIONAL MUSEUM:)


The Bangladesh National Museum (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় যাদুঘর) preserves and displays the cultural property and heritage, as well as specimens of natural history of Bangladesh. Its mission is to establish a bridge between the past and the present and uphold the national tradition and culture. The museum was formally inaugurated on 20 March, 1913. On 20 September, 1983 it was declared as the national museum of Bangladesh. It is located at Shahbag, Dhaka.

The National Parliament  (Sangsad Bhaban)






The National Parliament  (Sangsad Bhaban) is the seat of  the government. Situated at the center of Dhaka city, it is an architectural wonder. It was designed by the famous American architect Louis Kahn
